How do we destroy your data securely?
We use different Secure Data erasure depending on your device, backed by NCSC-approved standards, accreditations and certificates.

How do we destroy your data?
Data Wiping
Where a device is suitable for reuse, secure data wiping is our preferred method. We use certified professional data erasure software to securely overwrite storage devices and prevent the original data from being recovered.
The software provides a range of recognised and configurable data erasure methods, allowing the appropriate certified or industry-recognised sanitisation method to be selected based on the storage device and the requirements of the customer. A detailed erasure report can be generated for each device, providing evidence of the method used and the successful completion of the wiping process.
Physical Data Destruction
When a storage device cannot be securely wiped, or physical destruction is requested, we can destroy the storage media by drilling through the drive. This physically damages the internal storage components, making the device unusable and preventing the stored data from being accessed.
Secure Data Sanitisation
Protecting the information stored on redundant IT equipment is an essential part of responsible IT disposal. Computers, laptops, servers and storage devices can contain confidential business information, customer records, employee data, passwords and other sensitive files.
At Saving Tech, we securely process data-bearing equipment before it is reused, recycled or physically destroyed. The appropriate method depends on the type and condition of the storage device and whether the equipment is suitable for reuse.
Secure Data Wiping
Where a device is suitable for reuse, secure data wiping is our preferred method. The storage device is securely overwritten using recognised data erasure methods designed to prevent the original information from being recovered.
Once the process has been completed, an erasure report can be produced, providing a record of the device and the sanitisation process. Secure wiping allows suitable equipment to be reused rather than unnecessarily destroyed, helping us maximise reuse and reduce electronic waste.
Physical Data Destruction
Where a storage device cannot be securely wiped, or where physical destruction is required, we can physically destroy the storage media by drilling through the drive.
This physically damages the internal storage components, making the drive unusable and preventing the stored information from being accessed through normal means. The destroyed storage devices can then be processed through our responsible recycling service.
Data Erasure Reports
For equipment processed through secure data wiping, an erasure report can provide an audit trail of the sanitisation process. This can include details such as the device identification, erasure method, date and result of the operation.
This documentation provides businesses with evidence that their data-bearing equipment has been securely processed before being reused or recycled.
Certificate of Data Destruction
Businesses can request a Certificate of Data Destruction for equipment processed through our secure data destruction service. This provides additional documentation for your records and helps demonstrate that redundant data-bearing equipment has been securely dealt with.
Secure Data Destruction and Responsible Recycling
Data sanitisation is an important part of our wider ITAD service. Once data has been securely removed or storage media has been physically destroyed, equipment can be assessed for reuse, refurbishment or responsible recycling.
Our approach is designed to protect your information while maximising the recovery and reuse of valuable IT equipment and materials.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between data wiping and degaussing?
Data wiping overwrites a drive with NCSC-approved erasure software so the device can be reused. Degaussing destroys the magnetic field on the drive so it can no longer be used at all. We only degauss where wiping isn't a suitable option.
Can data ever be recovered after wiping?
No. NCSC-approved erasure software overwrites the drive so completely that the original data can't be recovered, even though the physical device remains intact and usable.
Do you provide evidence of your accreditations?
Yes. Our Environment Agency Waste Carriers Registration and ICO registration numbers are published on our accreditations and compliance page, and available on request.
What happens if a drive can't be wiped or degaussed?
It goes for physical shredding, which breaks the device into fragments no larger than 6mm, destroying the platters, mechanisms and electronic components completely.
Are your methods compliant with government and public sector requirements?
Yes. Our processes are approved by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which is increasingly required for public sector and other regulated procurement.
Do you destroy data from damaged or non-functioning devices?
Yes. Even if a device won't power on, we can still destroy any data held on its storage media, usually via degaussing or shredding.
